This workshop explores our universe from the infinitely small to the infinitely large.
Using large high resolution images a journey through space and time is illustrated using simple mathematics based on multiples and submultiples of ten.
Participants use optical equipment to understand both the very small and the very large objects in our universe - exploring both inner space and outer space. For example:
- a polarising microscope is used with thin sections of rocks to show minerals
- a biological microscope is used to show plant and animal tissue
- a refracting telescope is used for safe solar observing - lunar observing also possible
- binoculars are used to look at terrestrial objects
Our Magic Planet digital globe is used to show images and animations - imagining the inside of the atom through to distant galaxies.  A range of artwork and film-making is also included in the hands-on activities to enable everyone to engage in the workshop.
